Ford Faces Class-Action Lawsuit Over Mach-E’s Electronic Door Latch Safety

Ford is facing a class-action lawsuit over its electric vehicle model Mach-E, alleging that the car’s electronic door latches can trap people inside or out of the vehicle if battery power is lost. The lawsuit, filed in California on February 27, claims that Ford has not provided a straightforward way to open the doors and has failed to take action despite “numerous instances” of children being locked inside the car.

Mach-E owners can access a battery control system under the front hood, but this requires jumper cables or a 12-volt box, which are typically stored inside. The lawsuit argues that this is difficult for average drivers to do without proper knowledge and equipment.

The case aims to represent California residents who bought and still own Mach-E vehicles, including current and previous leaseholders. Lawyers from Kazerouni Law Group and Diab Chambers are handling the case.

As a result of the lawsuit, Ford has declined to comment on the matter. However, the issue highlights concerns about the safety of electric vehicle designs, particularly those without traditional door handles or keyholes.
