Ford Fears for Future Amid Competition from Chinese EVs

Ford is taking bold steps to compete with the low-cost electric vehicles (EVs) coming out of China. The company’s CEO, Jim Farley, recently spent six months driving a Xiaomi SU7, a top-rated Chinese EV that boasts advanced features like AI assistants and touch screens at an affordable price tag of $30,000.

Farley has expressed concerns about the impact of Chinese EVs on Ford’s future if Americans start to favor them. Despite importing a Xiaomi for testing purposes, regular US buyers face stiff tariffs and restrictions on Chinese technology, keeping these innovative cars out of their hands. If China continues to dominate the market, traditional automakers like Ford could be left behind.

In fact, Chinese brands have already gained significant ground in other regions, including Europe, where they now hold a share comparable to luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz. With Farley emphasizing that Ford is “in a global competition with China,” the stakes are high for the US company’s survival.
