Ford Recalls 300,000 Super Duty Trucks Due to Biodiesel Issues

Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 300,000 Super Duty trucks due to issues with the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP), which are caused by the buildup of deposits from aged biodiesel. The affected trucks were shipped with 6.7-liter diesel engines and have been prone to failure over time.

The recall affects the 2020-2022 Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks, including models F250, F350, F450, F550, and F600. Owners of these vehicles may experience partial pump failure, leading to symptoms such as long cranks, poor power delivery, and a “check engine” light.

Ford initially suspected faulty fuel pumps but later determined that the issue was caused by aged biodiesel due to extended periods of time when fuel sat unused during the COVID-19 pandemic. To address this issue, Ford has updated the part and reprogrammed its trucks to improve cooling of the HPFP, reducing the buildup of deposits.

Affected owners will receive the same updates and be eligible for compensation from Ford if they have already had their fuel pump serviced or replaced due to this problem.
