Ford Recalls Nearly 270K Cars Over Battery Issue

Ford Motor Company has recalled over 270,000 vehicles, including popular models like the Bronco Sport and Maverick, due to a potential battery failure that could cause sudden electrical malfunctions. The NHTSA estimates that about 1% of these cars might experience battery degradation leading to power loss or hazard lights, increasing crash risk. Ford agreed to pay up to $165 million in penalties for rushing the recall after initially narrowing it down to vehicles produced from February 2020 to October 20, 2022. If customers already paid to fix a problem covered by the recall and later involved in an accident, they may be eligible for a refund through their Ford dealer or by getting a loaner car. Additionally, Vornado space heaters sold on Amazon were recently recalled due to fire hazards. Emily Rahhal covers Ford coverage and auto news at PIX11.
