Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 1 million vehicles in the US due to a software issue causing delayed or frozen images on the rearview camera. The affected models include some made between 2021 and 2024, such as the Ford Bronco, Edge, and F-150.
According to the automaker, the problem can increase the risk of a crash if the driver’s view behind the vehicle is obstructed. To address this issue, Ford will be issuing a software update that can be installed over-the-air or at a local dealership.
Other impacted vehicles include the 2023-2024 Escape, 2022-2024 Expedition, 2024 Mustang, 2021-2023 Mustang Mach E, 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigator, and 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus. The full list of affected models can be found on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
Ford first reported the issue in January and its engineering team confirmed it in April. However, no injuries have been reported. This is not Ford’s first recall related to rearview camera issues; last year, the company was fined $165 million for moving too slowly on a similar recall issued in 2020.
