Ford will discontinue production of its Escape and Lincoln Corsair small SUVs later this year as the company retools its Louisville, Kentucky plant for a new midsize electric pickup truck. The $30,000 EV truck is expected to launch in 2027 and marks a significant investment by Ford, with the company allocating $5 billion towards the project.
The Louisville plant will be equipped with a new Universal EV Production System, simplifying the assembly of electric vehicles built on Ford’s new architecture. Although production of Escape and Corsair will stop, Ford expects to have sufficient inventory to sell both models “well into 2026,” ensuring dealer levels remain relatively high.
This decision marks a significant shift for Ford, as the Escape was its second-best-selling SUV last year, and the Corsair is a key entry point for the Lincoln luxury brand. The long-term success of this pivot remains to be seen, but it signals Ford’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup.
