Forest Hill Mayor Participates in Storytime Train Series

Forest Hill Mayor Stephanie Boardingham promoted childhood literacy by participating in Trinity Metro’s Storytime Train Read & Ride! summer series. She was among several community leaders who read aloud to children aboard the TEXRail passenger line in July and early August.

The event, which aimed to make reading fun and exciting, contributed to an additional 3,000 riders on the train during its launch period. The cost of rides was reduced to $2 for children over age 5, thanks to promotional codes. Attendees received a book to take home after each ride.

Local leaders such as Emily Messer, president of Texas Wesleyan University, and Karen Molinar, superintendent of the Fort Worth Independent School District, also volunteered to read on the train. Ericka Garza, president and CEO of the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, provided a storytime reading in Spanish.

The event was seen as a success, with community leaders praising its immersive experience for children. Boardingham described her own experience as “amazing” and said she would participate again next year. With plans to adjust Storytime Train activities for World Cup events, Trinity Metro officials have committed to continuing the program.
