A former executive director of Camp Thurman is set to stand trial on November 5th, accused of misusing the camp’s funds for personal expenses between January 2021 and October 2022. Blake Bowman allegedly used credit cards meant for camp expenses to pay personal bills, and connected his PayPal account to the camp’s bank account to transfer money out.
Prosecutors have entered transactions totaling around $1 million into evidence, including payments from a Capital One account, JPMorgan Chase account, and PayPal account. It is unclear how much Bowman stole and misapplied.
Bowman had previously taken jobs as a fourth-grade teacher in Weatherford ISD and fifth-grade teacher in Burleson ISD before resigning from the latter in August 2023. His state board teaching certification is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency due to concerns about his past actions.
