Former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Leaves Post Amid Controversy

Kristi Noem is departing her role as Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary after just over a year in the position. The 54-year-old, known for her “ICE Barbie” nickname due to her glamorous appearance, expressed gratitude and pride in her accomplishments during her tenure.

Noem highlighted several major wins, including securing the most secure border in American history, locating unaccompanied children, delivering disaster relief, and saving taxpayers $13 billion. She also touted her national security expertise gained from various roles, including governor of South Dakota and congresswoman on the House Armed Services Committee.

However, Noem’s exit comes amid controversy surrounding her handling of recent operations targeting undocumented migrants, Senate testimony, and alleged department mismanagement. President Donald Trump praised Noem’s successor, Markwayne Mullin, during his inauguration ceremony, singling out his wife for a compliment that left some amused.

Noem will transition to the role of Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, which was announced by Trump on March 5. The move reportedly came after mounting pressure from the administration, with reports suggesting Trump was frustrated with Noem’s handling of sensitive operations and Senate testimony.
