Former Diamondbacks Shortstop Nick Ahmed Announces Retirement

Former Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed has retired from professional baseball after an impressive 12-year career in the majors. Known primarily for his strong defensive skills, Ahmed played in 888 games for the D-backs, ranking sixth on their all-time list of most appearances.

Throughout his time with the team, from 2014 to 2023, Ahmed earned two Gold Glove awards in 2018 and 2019. Despite being a career .234 hitter, he accumulated 726 hits, 364 runs, and 339 RBI, including 19 home runs and 82 RBIs in the 2019 season.

After signing with the Giants as a minor league free agent in 2024, Ahmed made stops with several other teams before returning to the Diamondbacks for five games. With over 10 years of MLB service time, he is eligible for a full pension upon his retirement.
