A former employee of Eminem has been accused of leaking the rapper’s unreleased music online, according to the FBI. Joseph Strange, a 46-year-old man from Holly, Michigan, was charged with criminal infringement of a copyright and interstate transportation of stolen goods.
Strange worked for Eminem from 2007 to 2021 and allegedly shared the leaked music through hard drives, which were later discovered by Eminem’s team. If found guilty on both charges, Strange could face up to 15 years in prison.
Eminem collaborator Electrifying Filthy Rockwell expressed frustration and sadness over the incident, stating that sharing unreleased music is like betraying a trust. “This music is like our kids,” he said. “We nurture it and grow fond relationships with the music… It’s detrimental when somebody leaks your music.”
The FBI investigation is ongoing, but Strange’s case has already sparked concern in the music industry. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting intellectual property and the consequences of leaking sensitive information.
The FBI did not provide further details on how they gathered evidence or what motivated Strange to leak the music. However, authorities say that if convicted, Strange could face significant penalties for his actions.
