Former US President Jimmy Carter Dies at 100

Jimmy Carter, the longest-lived US president who served from 1977 to 1979, has passed away at 100. A one-term presidency was marked by economic challenges, including inflation and an oil shortage, as well as a major foreign policy incident involving Iran holding American hostages.

Despite the difficulties of his time in office, Carter’s humanitarian work is often cited as a defining aspect of his post-presidency career. He founded the Carter Center, which has made significant contributions to global health, democracy, and human rights.

Carter’s death was announced by the Carter Center, who stated that he had died surrounded by family at his home in Plains, Georgia. Memorial services are planned in Atlanta and Washington, with a private interment to follow in Plains.
