Fort Worth Buddhist Monk Undergoes Surgery to Amputate Leg

A Buddhist monk participating in a 2,300-mile walk to Washington D.C. had surgery to remove his leg due to an injury caused by a pickup truck driver. Bhante Dam Phommasan, one of several monks on the “Walk for Peace” initiative, was injured November 19 near Houston and decided to undergo amputation instead of multiple surgeries. The group’s Facebook page announced that Phommasan’s surgery was successful, and he is now resting comfortably under medical care, beginning his healing process.
