Fort Worth Pays $2.2 Million to Run City Council Elections Over Decade

Fort Worth’s annual city elections cost over $2.2 million, with the majority going to Tarrant County. The county bills local cities and entities that have names or items on the ballot for a share of election-related expenses, determined by their size.

In recent years, Fort Worth has paid around $211,600 for May elections, which is the median cost over the past decade. Runoff elections are more expensive, with an average cost of $218,400.

The most expensive election in the past 10 years was the June 2021 runoff, costing about $368,000. The largest expense is paying election personnel and poll workers, accounting for around 64% of expenses.
