Epic Games has finally announced the release of Fortnite Ballistic, the highly anticipated first-person mode that promises a new type of gaming experience. Set to launch on December 11, Fortnite Ballistic is a 5v5 round-based shooter where two teams compete to defuse or detonate a Rift Point Device bomb.
In this game mode, there are no respawns, and each round ends when an entire team is eliminated or the device is disarmed or exploded. Players start with basic pistols and credits, which they can use to buy guns and gadgets like bubble shields and proximity mines between rounds. If players survive a round, they keep their items; if they die, they must rebuy.
The first team to win seven rounds wins the match. Fortnite Ballistic is being described as “early access” by Epic, suggesting that it will have limitations at launch. The mode will debut with a single map, Skyline 10, and offer both ranked and unranked play options.
In ranked mode, players will not be replaced if some team members leave, but they will have a three-minute grace period to rejoin the match if it crashes or disconnects. There are also leaver penalties in ranked Ballistic, including matchmaking bans for repeated disconnections.
Notably, Fortnite Ballistic will support most of Fortnite’s cosmetics, including skins and emotes, offering players a new way to express themselves in this new game mode.
