The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is sending refunds to players of Fortnite, totaling over $126 million, due to unwanted purchases made while playing the game. This latest round of payments comes after a previous $72 million was issued in December 2024. The deadline for submitting claims has been extended until July 9, allowing further eligible consumers to request a refund.
Epic Games will pay a total of $520 million, including penalties and fines, for allegedly “tricking users into making unwanted charges” using dark patterns to trick players into purchasing items they did not want. The company also faces a $275 million penalty for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
Players who were charged for in-game currency or had unauthorized purchases made on their behalf by children without parental involvement are eligible for refunds. Players of all ages can apply, but those under 18 must have a parent or guardian fill out the claim form on their behalf. Refunds are only available to players in the United States.
Eligible persons can apply for a refund via the official Fortnite refund website using either a claim number sent to their email address or their Epic Games account ID. The next round of refunds is expected to be sent in 2026, after all claims are validated.
