Fortnite Players Get Over $200M Refunds from FTC Settlement

The Federal Trade Commission has announced that it will issue over $126 million in refunds to players of Epic Games’ “Fortnite” who were charged for unwanted purchases while playing the game. This is part of a new round of refunds, which brings the total amount issued by the FTC related to its settlement with Epic to nearly $200 million.

In December 2022, Epic agreed to pay $245 million to settle accusations that it used deceptive practices to trick players into making unwanted purchases. The FTC has already issued one round of refunds to over 629,000 players in December 2024, totaling more than $72 million.

The second round of refunds will include checks and PayPal payments for approximately 969,000 players who filed a valid claim. Eligible consumers can submit their claims until July 9, 2025, at www.ftc.gov/fortnite. The FTC encourages recipients to cash checks within 90 days and redeem PayPal payments within 30 days.

A representative for Epic Games declined to comment, instead pointing back to the company’s initial blog post announcing the settlement in December 2022.
