Playground Games has announced that Forza Horizon 5, the popular Xbox racing game, will be coming to PlayStation 5 this spring. The decision marks a surprise shift by Microsoft-owned Playground Games, which had previously made its exclusive titles available only on Xbox and PC.
Developed in partnership with Turn 10 Studios and Panic Button, the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 will feature all the same content as its Xbox and PC counterpart, including Car Packs and expansions like Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure. This move signals a growing trend among Xbox developers to release their games on non-Xbox platforms.
The news comes amidst reports that Microsoft is exploring new revenue streams beyond console sales. A recent investor call revealed that while some of its titles, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, had reached significant player numbers, overall gaming revenue fell due to declining console sales. This may prompt Xbox to prioritize Game Pass and expand its reach across different hardware.
Forza Horizon 5 is the latest installment in an open-world racing series known for its arcade-style gameplay and stunning settings. Players will be able to explore beautiful Mexico and compete in high-speed races, a feature also seen in its sister title Forza Motorsport.
