Scientists have discovered a 113-million-year-old fossil of an ancient ant in Brazil that sheds new light on the insects’ incredible strength. The “Hell ant” has scythe-like jaws and was found to be able to lift objects weighing 100 times its own body weight, even defending itself against predators like lions. This discovery confirms that ants have been around longer than previously thought.
