Fossil Ends Wear OS Smartwatch Lineup for Good

Fossil has officially pulled its last smartwatches from the market, marking the end of its efforts in the Wear OS platform. The company had invested heavily in Google’s Wear OS for several years but struggled to make a significant impact in the competitive smartwatch market.

In January 2024, Fossil announced it was ending its partnership with Wear OS and would continue to provide software support for its remaining smartwatches. However, most of these devices sold out during a fire sale in May and June 2024, leaving only one smartwatch available – the Citizen CZ Smart Gen 2.

The CZ Smart Gen 2 was released in 2023 but had some issues upon launch. Despite this, it remained on sale through Citizen’s website until January 2025, when both its “Sport” and “Casual Unisex” variations were quietly removed from online store listings.

With the end of Fossil’s efforts, Wear OS is now being led by newer brands like Google’s Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch. The platform is growing rapidly, and its demise means that stylish smartwatches from legacy watchmakers are all but gone from the market.
