Four EU Countries Agree to Send $1 Billion Worth of US Weapons to Ukraine

Four European countries – the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark – have agreed to buy a combined $500 million worth of US weapons and send them to Ukraine under an arrangement announced by President Trump last month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed thanks for the assistance on social media. The arrangement comes after Trump expressed support for NATO countries buying US weapons and sending them to Ukraine.

The Netherlands will send American missiles and other components used in the US Patriot air defense systems already in Ukraine, valued at over $500 million. This helps Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression. Sweden, Norway, and Denmark have collectively agreed to support a package of US weapons worth around $500 million, although no immediate details on which arms they will send are available.

The US has provided around $75 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. However, it remains unclear whether increased European assistance can make up for the loss of US aid.
