Fox is launching a new direct-to-consumer service called “Fox One” on August 21, allowing users to access its Sunday NFL, Saturday college football, and MLB postseason games without the need for additional subscriptions to cable or streaming services. The monthly fee will be $19.99.
The service targets viewers who don’t typically watch Fox through traditional linear or digital channels but will still be available to anyone with access to Fox through other means at no extra cost. Fox One includes all programming on its broadcast network, including live sports and news.
Other companies have already entered the direct-to-consumer market, such as YouTube’s Sunday Ticket and NBC’s Peacock. ESPN is also expected to launch a similar service in the coming weeks, with an anticipated monthly fee of $29.99.
Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch stated that no programming will be exclusive to Fox One, and subscription expectations are modest. The service will offer live sports coverage, including college football and NFL regular-season games starting September 7, as well as MLB postseason games.
An early indicator of the service’s success could come on August 30, when it airs a highly anticipated college football season-opener featuring Texas at Ohio State.
