Framework Upgrades Laptop 16 with Ryzen AI Processors and RTX 5070 GPU

Framework has announced its first major hardware update in two years, upgrading the Framework Laptop 16 to include Ryzen AI processors and new integrated Radeon GPUs. The update also introduces a new graphics module featuring Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5070 GPU.

Preorders for the updated laptop open today, with prices starting at $1,499 for the DIY Edition. The upgrade includes improved cooling and connectivity features, such as an additional USB-C port that supports both display output and power input.

The update marks a significant departure from Framework’s typical upgrade cycle, which has focused on updating its smaller laptops. However, the Laptop 16 is due for an overhaul after being released two years ago. The old Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU model will remain available at a reduced price of $1,299, while the Ryzen 9 7940HS model is expected to sell out and be discontinued.

The RTX 5070 GPU features a redesigned heatsink and fan system, allowing for improved cooling and performance. The update also brings a new mobile version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, fully compatible with both the original Laptop 16 and the new mobile version.
