The long-awaited sequel to the 2003 comedy classic Freaky Friday is finally here, and it’s a treat for fans of the original. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprise their iconic roles as Tess and Anna, respectively, in this latest installment. The film picks up years after the events of the first movie and follows Anna as she navigates life as a mom herself.
The new sequel introduces a new generation to the body-swapping madness, with Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Julia Butters, and Sophia Hammons joining the cast. Returning favorites Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon also make appearances.
Critics praise the film’s well-paced and laugh-out-loud moments, saying it’s a nostalgic tribute to the first installment without relying on lazy nostalgia. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are particularly praised for their convincing performances as the swapped-body versions of Harper and Lily.
The sequel’s new cast members bring their own unique charm to the film, with Butters and Hammons stealing scenes as older women trapped in their young bodies. The movie’s lighthearted tone and fun script make it an enjoyable watch, even if it may not be a world-beater.
Freakier Friday opens in theaters on August 8, 2025.
