Actor Freddie Prinze Jr., best known for his roles in horror movies like “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” is back as Ray, one of the main characters in the upcoming movie reboot of the franchise. In a recent interview with Variety, Prinze discussed his return to the role and what fans can expect from this year’s film.
Prinze, who starred alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in the original “I Know What You Did Last Summer” trilogy, said that he was drawn to reprise his role as Ray because it allowed him to explore a character he had never played before – someone who has struggled with financial difficulties and is in denial about his past.
“We run in different circles,” Prinze said of Gellar, adding that despite not seeing her since the original trilogy, they still care deeply about their characters and were able to reconnect during filming. The director, Jenn Robinson, helped bring out the best in both actors, and Prinze is proud of the chemistry between Ray and Julie.
In addition to his work on “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” Prinze has had a diverse career, including recurring roles on action shows, voice-over work in the animated “Star Wars” universe, and stints as a writer. He has also been open about his struggles with show business, including discussing his wife’s treatment on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Prinze’s approach to maintaining a private life as a public figure is centered around treating everyone with dignity and respect. He believes that people are more interested in affirmation than information, and he doesn’t offer advice.
When asked if he would be open to playing a monster in the future, Prinze jokingly said it was an opportunity to finally be someone under the mask.
Finally, Prinze discussed the long-standing attempt to get a biopic about his father made. Although there have been attempts to bring it to life, nothing has materialized yet.
