Freed Hamas Captives Share Haunting Stories of 15-Month Ordeal

Three women held captive by Hamas for over 471 days shared their harrowing testimonies on Sunday, describing conditions that included being confined underground without daylight and exposed to hostile crowds. Doron Steinbrecher, Romi Gonen, and Emily Damari recounted how they were initially held together but later separated, with the latter spending extensive time with Gonen before undergoing medical procedures.

The women revealed they spent 15 months cooking and supporting each other, often watching TV and radio broadcasts of their families’ struggles for release. They also shared details about October 7 massacre, including discovering they had lost many friends despite learning their families survived. The testimonies also shed light on Emily Damari’s medical care provided by Romi Gonen, a trained medic who treated her wounds after she was shot during the massacre.
