A French millionaire founder of a cryptocurrency company and his wife were rescued after being abducted earlier this week. David Balland, who founded Ledger, which sells devices to store crypto assets, and his wife Amadine were taken from their home in Vierzon, France. The kidnapping involved more than 230 officers and a ransom demand of $10 million via cryptocurrency. Authorities eventually located Balland, who was found injured with part of his finger missing, while Amadine was later discovered unharmed in a van. Both were rescued after police tracked the GPS of a suspect’s car. The kidnappers were arrested along with others believed to be involved. Authorities confirmed that part of the ransom had been paid and stated that most of it was frozen and seized. This complex case has brought attention to the challenges faced by victims and their families in such situations.
Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau indicated that nearly all of the ransom had been recovered, while General Ghislain Réty described it as “extremely complex.” The case highlights the intricate web of individuals involved in the abduction and the efforts to resolve the situation.
