In a surprise move, director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that FromSoftware, the renowned Soulsborne studio, is developing a new game called The Duskbloods exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. A PvPvE (player versus player and player versus environment) game, it allows for a diverse range of game design ideas while maintaining challenging enemy encounters.
Miyazaki emphasized that this doesn’t signify a shift in FromSoftware’s direction, with the company committed to creating single-player focused games, including an upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring. Despite experimenting with multiplayer elements in recent titles such as Elden Ring and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Miyazaki assured that traditional gameplay will remain a core aspect.
The Duskbloods concept was initially presented to Nintendo as a “loose string of ideas” but ultimately allowed FromSoftware to stay true to its vision with the Switch 2’s focus on online features. The game is expected to be different from previous FromSoftware titles, yet the studio maintains its commitment to core gameplay elements.
Miyazaki did not reveal future single-player focused projects beyond Elden Ring 2, nor Bloodborne 2, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further announcements from the studio.
