Frontier Airlines Targets Spirit Airlines’ Market Share

Frontier Airlines is launching a marketing campaign targeting customers of struggling budget airline Spirit Airlines. The US-based carrier plans to add 20 new routes in major Spirit markets, including Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida.

Spirit’s financial situation has worsened due to high debt and declining revenue. In a recent warning, the company stated it might not survive another year without more cash. This led to a surge in stock prices of rival airlines.

Frontier CEO Barry Biffle is positioning his airline as the top budget carrier in the US. He believes that if Spirit collapses, Frontier will pick up its market share. To attract customers, Frontier has introduced loyalty matching programs and is expanding its routes.

The airline’s growth comes as it faces competition from larger rivals like United Airlines and American Airline. Ultra-low-cost carriers like Frontier must adapt to changing customer demands and increasing costs.

Frontier’s expansion follows Spirit’s recent bankruptcy protection period and its failure to acquire the struggling budget airline despite multiple attempts since 2022. Despite this, Frontier remains focused on becoming the country’s largest budget airline.
