Frozen Broccoli Smuggling Ring Exposed

A joint investigation by Policia Nacional and the National Crime Agency (NCA) has uncovered an international drug smuggling ring using boxes of frozen broccoli to transport cocaine and hashish between Spain and the UK. Nine British nationals have been arrested, with two apprehended in Spain and seven in Manchester.

The operation began in 2022, focusing on businesses linked to criminal organisations shipping drugs to the UK. Authorities discovered a new company involved in smuggling, where shipments were prepared at a warehouse. Members of the gang would travel between the warehouse and an apartment nearby, using rental vehicles.

In October, three pallets of broccoli boxes were sent to Manchester, prompting officers to storm the warehouse and seize 400 kilograms of hashish. Meanwhile, NCA officers found 600 kilograms of hashish hidden in frozen broccoli and arrested seven members of the gang. The investigation has resulted in a significant haul of illicit substances, with cocaine and hashish quantities exceeding two tonnes and nearly 200 kilograms respectively.
