Fujifilm has taken a bold step into the photography world with its latest innovation – the GFX100RF, the world’s first fixed lens medium format digital camera. This device aims to bridge the gap between professionals and serious photo enthusiasts who want to harness the benefits of medium format imaging without being confined by bulky bodies and lenses.
The GFX100RF boasts a 102MP BSI CMOS sensor, slightly larger than those found in full-frame cameras, which translates to improved resolution, color depth, and more gradual focus fall-off. This camera is designed for travel photographers who need a versatile tool that can capture stunning images without compromising on quality. The large prime lens (28mm equivalent) is ideal for landscapes, architecture, museum interiors, and documentary photography.
In contrast to larger interchangeable lens cameras like the GFX100S II, the GFX100RF has some notable trade-offs. It lacks a stabilized image sensor and uses a permanently attached prime lens with an integral leaf shutter. However, this device makes up for it with its compact size (3.6 x 5.3 x 3.0 inches) and weight (1.6 pounds), making it suitable for travel.
Key features of the GFX100RF include:
– A wide-angle prime lens with a neutral density filter
– Digital step zoom for 45mm, 63mm, or 80mm coverage
– Weather-sealed body with an excellent battery life rating
– Dual UHS-II memory card slots and Fuji’s JPG engine
The GFX100RF is available in two finishes (all-black and black-and-silver) and comes bundled with a protective lens filter, hood, strap, and lens cap. Orders for the camera will open on April 24 in the US, but availability may vary depending on regional markets.
