FX has cancelled its highly acclaimed series “The Old Man”, ending production on the show after five seasons. The decision to cancel the show was reportedly due to low ratings and minimal audience awareness, as well as increased production costs.
“The Old Man” premiered in 2022 after a lengthy delay due to COVID-19 and starring Jeff Bridges as a former CIA operative on the run. Despite its successful initial season, the show’s second season suffered delays due to the Hollywood strikes in 2023.
In contrast, Netflix has seemingly cancelled “Girls5Eva”, a musical comedy series created by Busy Philips. Although the streaming giant hasn’t made an official statement about the show’s fate, Philips hinted on her podcast that the show was indeed cancelled.
Philips cited the show’s name as a potential barrier for viewers and stated that Netflix had only committed to one season. The decision not to renew the show means its creative team is no longer under Netflix’s control, leaving its future uncertain.
Despite being off the air, fans of both shows can still watch them through their respective subscription services: “The Old Man” on Hulu and “Girls5Eva” on Netflix.
