G7 Officials Agree on Countermeasures Against China’s Trade Practices

Top finance officials from the seven wealthiest democracies have agreed to counter global economic imbalances, targeting “nonmarket policies and practices” that contribute to trade tensions. The Group of Seven (G7) members emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, while leaving out direct references to China’s export subsidies and currency manipulation. This shift in tone suggests a more conciliatory approach towards global economic issues, differing from previous meetings where defense of free trade was prominent.
