Gamescom 2025 is just around the corner, breaking records with over 1,500 exhibitors from 72 countries and expanding its footprint to 233,000 square meters. The event’s managing director, Felix Falk, attributes this success to the importance of establishing a digital presence even before COVID-19.
Falk notes that Gamescom has managed to flourish despite other major industry events, such as E3, falling into ruin. He credits the hybrid approach taken by the event, which combines online streaming with in-person attendance, for its success. According to Falk, almost 50 million people watched last year’s Opening Night Live show.
While the pandemic accelerated the shift towards digital events, Gamescom has maintained its physical presence while still attracting a global audience. Falk emphasizes that in-person events offer an “emotional” aspect that is difficult to replicate digitally. The event aims to maintain quality over quantity, with organizers intentionally limiting attendance to preserve the atmosphere.
As Gamescom continues to grow, it’s expanding into new regions such as Latin America and Asia. With its diverse lineup and hybrid approach, the event is poised to remain a vital platform for the gaming industry.
