Free agent quarterback Gardner Minshew has agreed to a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN sources. He will replace Carson Wentz as Patrick Mahomes’ backup. The Las Vegas Raiders released Minshew on Wednesday, marking the end of his second stint with the team.
Minshew, 28, faced a tight competition for the starting job during training camp last year but ultimately secured it. However, he struggled in the role, posting 2,013 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 10 games before suffering a season-ending injury. The Raiders went 2-7 last season with Minshew at the helm.
In his NFL career, Minshew has thrown for 68 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions in 59 games across six teams. His best season came in 2023 when he set a career high with 3,305 yards while playing for the Indianapolis Colts.
