Gates Foundation Grants $7.5M for Needle-Free Measles Vaccine Study

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded Micron Biomedical a $7.5 million grant to support a phase 2 clinical trial of its needle-free measles vaccine. This grant brings the total funding from the Gates Foundation to $43 million.

The measles-rubella vaccine will be administered via Micron’s innovative “peel-and-stick” microarray technology, which allows for self-administration by pressing a button on the skin. The technology has been recognized for its potential to increase access to vaccines in hard-to-reach settings, such as Africa.

Previous research published in The Lancet in May 2024 demonstrated the safety and efficacy of this vaccine delivery method in children. Micron Biomedical is now poised to commercialize its proprietary dissolvable microarray technology, which has significant global impact potential.
