The University of Florida’s men’s basketball team defeated Southeastern Conference rival Auburn 79-73 in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the national championship game for the fourth time. The Gators are one win away from claiming their fifth national title.
Senior guard Walter Clayton Jr. led the team with a game-high 34 points, including 20 scored in the second half. He also hit 11 of 18 shots and 5 of 8 from three-point range. This performance cements his status as a top contender for Player of the Year honors.
Clayton’s impressive performance joins an elite group of players, including Larry Bird, who is often mentioned alongside him when discussing NCAA Tournament greatness.
The Gators’ victory puts them in position to win their fifth national title, with only one more game needed to achieve this goal. They face the Houston-Duke winner on Monday night and will look to bring home the championship title for Florida.
