Gayle King made history on Monday when she joined an all-female space flight on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. The CBS News broadcaster boarded the capsule looking visibly distressed, but her viral expression quickly became a meme sensation.
Despite feeling anxious, King explained that she was overwhelmed by the moment and just wanted to get into her seat. She attributed this feeling to a friend’s advice from Germany: “It’s like having sex with the gods.” Although she had never experienced anything like it before, King found solace in the peaceful atmosphere of space.
“I walked out of there thinking I can do anything,” King said. The experience left her proud and inspired, saying, “I’m so proud of us, I really am proud of me… because I never thought I could do this.”
