Gaza Aid Group Under Fire After Clashes Erupt

A Gaza aid group, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), has come under scrutiny after distributing food to Palestinians in Gaza. The group claimed to have delivered 8,000 food boxes, but clashes erupted when thousands of people rushed the distribution center, with shots fired from Israeli helicopters and gunfire reported.

The GHF blamed “blockades imposed by Hamas” for delays in distributing aid, while Israel’s military said it had fired warning shots outside the aid center. The United Nations has called on Israel to reopen Gaza crossings to aid deliveries, criticizing a US-Israel backed humanitarian group operating in Gaza for its lack of transparency and bypassing of established UN aid systems.

The OCHA has stated that its work is a distraction from what’s urgently needed: the full reopening of aid crossings. Critics argue that the GHF’s model raises serious questions about its neutrality, operational legitimacy, and ability to have a positive impact on people in need of aid. The World Food Program has disputed claims that Hamas is diverting humanitarian aid.
