Gaza Aid Protests End in Bloodshed as Death Toll Rises

Gaza aid protests have turned deadly, with dozens reported killed trying to reach aid centers in recent days. The violence occurred despite Israel’s warnings shots being fired at “suspects” who approached troops.

Palestinian mothers like Hind Al-Nawajha risk their lives every day to bring food for her family, fearing that if she doesn’t return with groceries, her children will cry and be unhappy.

In the past two days, dozens of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire as they tried to reach aid trucks brought into Gaza by the UN and international relief agencies. The latest incident involved 12 people trying to approach a site operated by the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in central Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military said it fired warning shots at “suspects” who endangered themselves, but Gaza health officials accused them of releasing inaccurate information.

In recent days, the Israeli military has opened fire and warned people away from areas where troops were operating, leading to a loss of life among civilians. The UN rejects the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s delivery system as inadequate and violating humanitarian rules.

Over 1 million people in Gaza are without adequate shelter, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council, due to equipment such as tents and tarpaulins being blocked by Israel since March 1.

The conflict has already killed nearly 55,600 Palestinians, displaced almost 2 million, and triggered a hunger crisis.
