Gaza Chaos as Aid Distribution Efforts Descend into Chaos

Israel is facing growing international pressure over the chaotic distribution of aid in Gaza, with 11 people killed and dozens injured as desperate crowds descended on aid sites. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has denied reports of violence, but witnesses describe scenes of chaos and desperation.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians, pushed towards famine after an 11-week Israeli blockade, flocked to the GHF’s aid sites in southern Gaza, grabbing bags of food and flour. However, many did not receive aid, with some areas receiving little or no assistance.

Critics say the new aid mechanism, backed by the US and Israel, has put people at risk and will not meet their needs. The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has condemned the privatization of humanitarian aid, while German officials have threatened to take action against Israel if its military offensive continues.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) has also faced criticism for its inability to collect humanitarian aid from the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza for the past three days. The organization is struggling to distribute aid due to obstacles, including obtaining necessary clearances.

With little aid coming into Gaza, scenes of desperation have emerged in recent days, with looting reported in some areas. Witnesses describe conditions as “humiliating and insulting,” highlighting the dire need for humanitarian assistance in the besieged enclave.
