Gaza City is at risk of destruction if Hamas agrees to terms to end the war, according to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. He warned that areas like Rafah and Beit Hanoun could become a reality unless Hamas meets Israel’s conditions.
Katz said that once these gates are opened on Gaza, it will be hell for Hamas militants. He also stated that the capital of Hamas, Gaza City, would suffer similar fate as Rafah and Beit Hanoun if they do not agree to Israel’s terms.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has begun operations on the outskirts of Gaza City, aiming to dismantle terrorist infrastructure above and underground. The IDF plans to escalate the war by seizing Gaza City and other strongholds in the Gaza Strip.
Humanitarian organizations warn that this could worsen the hunger crisis. A UN-backed food security monitor has determined a famine in Gaza City, with the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) raising its classification for the region to Phase 5, the highest level of acute food insecurity scale.
The IPC report states that the famine is entirely man-made and can be halted and reversed. However, the Israeli defense body in charge of coordinating aid to Gaza rejects this claim, alleging it is based on “partial and unreliable sources” affiliated with Hamas.
At least 71 Palestinians were killed, and 251 injured in the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza’s Hamas-run Ministry of Health. The health ministry also reported two deaths due to starvation over the past day, bringing the total number of deaths due to starvation to 273.
