A surge in violence in Gaza resulted in 77 deaths over two days, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has lasted for over a year, with tensions spreading to surrounding Middle East regions.
The war began on October 7, when Hamas militants launched a cross-border attack, killing around 1,200 people and taking civilian hostages. Israel responded by declaring war on Hamas, launching a ground invasion that fueled one of the largest displacement crises in the region since its creation in 1948.
A cease-fire deal was reached between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah in November 2024, but tensions have continued to escalate. The conflict has also involved Israel’s airstrikes into Lebanon, killing over 1,400 people, including Hezbollah’s leader Hasan Nasrallah.
The Gaza Strip is experiencing a devastating war, with tens of thousands killed and the population facing “famine-like conditions.” Western allies have called for increased humanitarian aid, but Israel has resisted pressure. The US supports Israel with military aid and funds, despite tensions between leaders.
