Gaza Death Toll Soars Amid Israeli Attacks and Siege

At least 83 people have been killed in Gaza, including 58 aid seekers, according to reports. The UN has warned that the situation is becoming increasingly dire, with approximately 28 children daily being killed due to Israeli attacks and the siege on humanitarian assistance.

The Palestinian Civil Defence has appealed for “urgent assistance and intervention” to supply the enclave with fuel for equipment to rescue the wounded. Meanwhile, the Israeli army claims to have airdropped 110 more aid packages into Gaza, bringing the total number of airdropped packages since July 27 to 785.

European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera has condemned reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for the full occupation of Gaza, calling it an “unacceptable provocation”.

The ICRC has called on Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement that would enable the delivery of humanitarian assistance and facilitate contact with captives held in Gaza. The organization warned that the window for saving lives is closing due to acute food shortages worsening by the day.

US officials are reportedly considering taking over management of humanitarian efforts in Gaza, citing concerns that Israel is not handling it adequately. A massive civilian flotilla is set to depart for Gaza at the end of August, with dozens of boats and thousands of activists expected to join.

Reports have also emerged of Israeli forces shooting three people, including a nine-year-old child, during a West Bank raid. The UN has warned that potential Israeli expansion in Gaza “would risk catastrophic consequences” and could further endanger the lives of remaining hostages.
