Gaza Faces ‘Silent Massacre’ Amid Widespread Hunger

Gaza is facing a “silent massacre” as at least 18 Palestinians have died from hunger in the past 24 hours, according to Gaza’s health authorities. The death toll has risen to 86, with 76 children among them, since March.

The situation is dire, with about 17,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East says Israeli authorities are starving civilians, including one million children, by maintaining the blockade on Gaza.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa described the situation as “unbelievable and unreasonable”. He called for stopping the violence, rebuilding Gaza, and unifying its institutions with national ones to establish a functional state.

Since Israel’s intensive strikes began in March 2023, at least 8,066 Palestinians have been killed and 28,939 others injured. The total death toll has risen to 58,895, and injuries to 140,980, according to health authorities.
