A Gaza family was killed just minutes before a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was supposed to start. The al-Qidra family had endured 15 months of Israeli attacks, displacement, and hunger. They were eager to return home after being displaced multiple times. However, the delay in the ceasefire meant that Israeli aircraft were still flying over Gaza, dropping bombs.
When Ahmed’s wife Hanan heard a loud explosion, she rushed to her children’s aid. Her eldest son, Adly, 16, and youngest daughter Sama, six, were killed. Three other family members survived, including her 12-year-old daughter Yasmin, who explained that a four-wheel drive was in front of their cart carrying celebrants when the missile hit.
Hanan was left devastated after learning that her husband Ahmed had been pronounced dead in the hospital. She broke down in tears, asking how three people from her family could be killed in the final minutes of the war. The family’s loss is a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences of conflict.
