The United Nations has reported a significant increase in malnutrition rates among children in the Gaza Strip, with cases more than doubling since Israel imposed strict food restrictions in March. The UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) screened over 16,000 children and found 10.2% of them were acutely malnourished, up from 5.5% just months earlier.
New Israeli strikes have killed more than 90 Palestinians, including dozens of women and children. One strike in the northern Shati refugee camp killed a 68-year-old Hamas politician and his family, while another hit a house in Gaza City’s Tel al-Hawa district, killing 19 members of one family.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that over 93 people were killed by Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours, along with 278 wounded. The Israeli military claims it only targets militants but has repeatedly struck homes and shelters without warning or explanation.
Experts warn of famine due to Israel’s blockade, which allows an average of just 69 trucks a day carrying supplies, far below the hundreds needed to sustain Gaza’s population. The UN says it struggles to distribute aid due to Israeli restrictions on its movements.
In a separate development, US Ambassador Mike Huckabee called for an investigation into the killing of a Palestinian-American by Jewish settlers in the West Bank, as Israel continues to carry out strikes in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, targeting compounds of the Hezbollah militant group.
