A Gaza pediatrician, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, left her 10 children at home before going to work in the emergency room. Hours later, seven of her children’s bodies arrived at the hospital, including a 12-year-old and three-year-old. Two more were still trapped under rubble.
Only one child, critically injured, survived. Dr. Najjar’s husband, also a doctor, was badly injured in the strike. The Israeli military claims aircraft targeted “suspects” operating near IDF troops, but Gaza authorities say their home was hit by an airstrike in Khan Younis.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health Director-General Munir al-Barsh described the attack as wiping out an entire family. Dr. Najjar continues to work at the hospital, periodically checking on her husband and surviving child.
“She stood tall, calm, patient, composed… with eyes full of acceptance,” said a senior official. Dr. Najjar, 38, has been working in the emergency room during Israel’s attacks on Gaza, prioritizing her patients over her own family.
