Gaza Truce Hits 6 Weeks Mark as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

The six-week-old truce in Gaza has done little to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in the war-torn territory. Despite efforts by international organizations, including the World Food Programme (WFP), millions of Palestinians remain without access to basic necessities such as food and clean water.

According to WFP, it has reached one million people across Gaza since the ceasefire began, but this figure is expected to dwindle if the truce collapses. The organization’s head warned that “the impact of safe & sustained humanitarian access is evident, but there can be no going back” once the situation deteriorates further.

Hamas officials have expressed frustration with Israel’s refusal to extend the truce, instead blaming the Israeli military for trying to recover its captives without agreeing to end the war. The group warned that “there are no obligations anymore to sustain the ceasefire,” potentially leading to a surge in military activity starting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, UN chief has urged both sides to spare no effort to extend the deal, while calling on international pressure on Israel to ensure the truce’s survival. The first phase of the truce has expired, but talks for its next stage have stalled, leaving millions in Gaza facing an uncertain future.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen as people struggle to access basic necessities, and tensions between Palestinians and Israeli forces remain high. As the situation on the ground remains volatile, it is clear that the fate of the truce hangs in the balance.
