NVIDIA’s latest GeForce RTX 5080 GPU has been confirmed to have missing ROPs, a problem that was previously only reported for the RTX 5090 and RTX 5070 Ti models. The issue affects a specific variant of the RTX 5080, with one user reporting only 104 ROPs instead of the expected 112.
The problem has been validated by NVIDIA’s GPU-Z program, which shows that the affected RTX 5080 features reduced ROPs. This is despite NVIDIA claiming that only certain high-end models were affected, with a total number of affected GPUs estimated to be less than 0.5% of total units produced.
The missing ROPs issue can significantly impact performance, particularly in raster operations and pixel fillrate. This may result in noticeable regression in performance, leading to inferior results compared to expected performance. NVIDIA estimates that the average performance difference will be around 4%.
With this confirmed case, it is essential to investigate the growing trend of this issue, as it could potentially scale up into a more significant problem for consumers in the GPU industry. As the first reported case of the GeForce RTX 5080 with missing ROPs, further analysis is required to understand the root cause and potential implications for users.
